Police are seeking witnesses to a car accident on Portal St this morning.

A car ended up on its nose, held up by railing at the bottom of Portal St where emergency services were called to just before 9am.

Police have not yet been able to find witnesses to speak to but Whanganui Police Sergeant Diane Limbrey said someone must have seen it at that time of the morning.

She was unsure is any other vehicles were involved or if anyone else was in the car.

The driver was attended to by St John staff at the scene and was speaking with police.

Ms Limbrey reminded people to drive to the conditions, slow down and don't speed.

Anyone with information about the accident can call Whanganui Police on 349 0600.
