Art auction at kindy Patea Kindergarten is celebrating its 50th anniversary by holding an art auction fundraiser. The event will take place at the Old Folks Hall in Patea on Friday.
Tickets cost $10 which is for entry and supper. Works on display will be by artists from throughout NewZealand. There will be raffles and a cash bar available. The doors open at 6.30pm for viewing and the auction begins at 7.30pm.
Toots for activist Whanganui animal activist Sandra Kyle got a few laughs from online comments about her make-up after the Wanganui Chronicle story about her ran on Saturday.
On the plus side, her Sunday vigil outside Land Meat got more toots, and someone recognised her in the supermarket and said he supported her work.
Tree planting goal Associate Forestry Minister Meka Whaitiri wants planting trees for people serving in the Defence Force to become a Maori New Year tradition as part of the Government's One Billion Tree programme.
Matariki Tu Rakau is a remembrance tree planting programme for those who have served and continue to serve in the Defence Force, and part of a series of initiatives to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the World War I. Communities will be able to plant trees on public and reserve land, during Matariki/Puanga from this year onwards.
Family histories focus The final seminar in a "home and away" themed series will be held at the Alexander Library at 2pm on Sunday. The seminar, presented by Sue McCliskie, will look at how family histories can shed light on issues of connection and mobility.
The seminars are being held by Massey University's WH Oliver Humanities Research Academy in partnership with the Alexander Heritage and Research Library and Whanganui Regional Museum.
