BB Bowness is back in Whanganui with her Boston bluegrass band in tow.
The Turakina Beach-raised banjo player has been living in the United States since 2012 but returns to the area with band Mile Twelve to play at the Whanganui Musicians' Club this Saturday.
Bowness is the only Kiwiin a five-piece group made of musicians from across the United States which includes Evan Murphy (guitar), Nate Sabat (bass), Bronwyn Keith‐Hynes (fiddle) and David Benedict (mandolin).
"I've been wanting to bring a full five-piece bluegrass band back home for some time," Bowness said.
"The music is so exciting and it's not heard a lot outside of the USA."
Mile Twelve was recently been nominated for the 2017 Momentum Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association.
The band has also opened for world-renowned artists such as Tim O'Brien, The Steep Canyon Rangers and Tony Trischka.
They have performed throughout the US, Ireland and Canada, including sets at major US bluegrass and folk festivals but this is their first trip to New Zealand and Australia.
