Kevin Coombe rolls up to help in Aramoho team top qualify and take out the rain-affected Wanganui Bowling Club's Men and Women's Classic Fours at the weekend.

Day one form proved winning form at the Wanganui Bowling Club's Ray White Men and Women's $5100 Classic Fours tournament at the weekend.

Sponsored with support from the Club Members' Perpetual Tournament Fund, the end result came down to top qualifiers from day one after the Sunday session was scrubbed through rain.

Convenor Bernard Anderson said Saturday play determined top and bottom qualifiers to meet on Sunday and an A and B section format.

"Unfortunately, Sunday was rained out so the A section top qualifiers from Saturday ended up winners, although the prize money was reshuffled around so that everyone got some of it. Even the teams that didn't feature got half their money back," Anderson said.

Top A section qualifiers were John Belliss' Aramoho team skipped by younger brother Peter Belliss with John at No 2, Kevin Coombe at No 3 and Keith Shultz making up the four.

Brian Whales' Wellington four, Shane Rogers from Palmerston North and Colin Cox from Wanganui East rounded out the A section top four.

The B section included Wanganui club sides Kim Herbert and Steve Goater and Russell Duggan's Durie Hill four, while an out-of-town team skipped by D Gibb rounded out the bottom four.

Coombe said while play was reduced by the rain on Sunday it was not plain sailing to take the title.

"Keith and I had to play Mark Noble and his partner in the pairs and managed to win, but Mark is a New Zealand rep who played in the disabled team at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast recently, so he is no slug. And Peter and John played a very handy team too, so it wasn't easy," Coombe said.
