Book Day offers readers new insights

Gonville Library is celebrating World Book Day for the first time.

Today and tomorrow the library, in Abbot St, is marking World Book Day by having a display called "Read Yourself Around The World".

Wanganui District Library Operations Manager Jeremy Barlow said the display features fiction book written by authors from around the world.

"The books are marked by a flag representing the country the author is from. A lot of the books have been translated into English.

"The purpose is to highlight the huge variety of literature available from our libraries which come from all around the globe and to encourage our customers to try something different in their reading choices," Mr Barlow said.

He said Gonville Library was excited to promote the event.

"It is great opportunity for people who have never visited us or for those haven't been in a for a while to come and see the display, have a coffee and enjoy our collection and facilities," Mr Barlow said.

World Book Day, which is also known as International Day Of The Book, is also the anniversary of William Shakespeare's death World Book Day is led by Unesco and was first held on April 23, 1995.
