Whanganui's expat world endurance champion Earl Bamber has confirmed his plans to join the 2018 V8 Supercars for the season's three endurance events as a co-driver with the Red Bull Holden Racing Team.

Bamber will join fellow Kiwi Shane Van Gisbergen to compete together at the rounds at Sandown, Bathurst and Surfers Paradise in September-October.

Bamber, who has twice won his class from three starts at the Bathurst 12 Hours event, will now achieve another long-time goal of entering the iconic Bathurst 1000.

"I'm happy to be joining one of the best teams and drivers in pit lane," he said.

"Shane and the Red Bull Holden Racing Team are the benchmark in Supercars and I look forward to supporting Shane in his 2018 championship bid."

The spot with the team opened up when Matt Campbell couldn't return due to overseas commitments.

Van Gisbergen said he was confident with Bamber coming on board.

"I grew up racing against Earl so I not only know him as a friend but know him as a good driver too."
