Azaria Timmins and her children are grateful for the community support they have received since their Kakatahi home was burgled.

A Whanganui woman has had her faith in people restored by the kindness of strangers following the ransacking of her home.

Azaria Timmins and her five children aged 2 to 12 years were traumatised after the burglary of their Kakatahi home on June 6.

The family's belongings were rifled through, beds trampled over and televisions, hunting gear and a neighbour's van stolen.

Since the family's plight was publicised by the Wanganui Chronicle Timmins has received offers of help from total strangers.

"I want to say thank you to everyone who offered to help or supported us with comments online," Timmins said.

"I've been in Whanganui all my life and when something like the burglary happens it changes your perspective and you start to think that everyone is like that.

"It's good to know there are still some decent people out there. It doesn't change what happened but it make you feel a little bit better.

"It means a lot that people have taken the time to care. I'm really grateful."
