Fire destroyed a second Whanganui home in three days in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Whanganui fire fighters were called to Savage Crescent in Aramoho at about 7.45am.

"It was well involved so two trucks went to that," senior station officer Jemal Weston said.

Smoke alarms eventually alerted the two occupants who escaped, needing treatment for minor smoke inhalation, he said.

"The value of smoke alarms again saved some lives."

The house was "extensively damaged" and fire investigators were yet to determine the cause," Mr Weston said.

The fire stated in one of the bedrooms.

At about 9.45am the fire service was back at a Harrison St property where a domestic clothes drier caught fire.

"We got there and extinguished it with minimal damaged."
