A man accused of entering someone's house while they slept and demanding money was denied bail on Tuesday.

Robert Paul Coleman applied for bail in the Whanganui District Court. He faces a charge of committing burglary with a weapon.

Police allege Coleman entered the complainant's house on June 30 and went into the bedroom where the complainant was sleeping.

It is alleged the complainant awoke to find Coleman standing at the foot of the bed saying he owed Coleman money, and that Coleman would take the TV as payment.

Police say the complainant picked up a chair and held it in front of him, telling Coleman to get out.

Coleman allegedly produced a knife before leaving.

Judge Cameron did not grant bail.

Coleman was remanded in custody to appear for case review on September 6.
