Dead seal buried Conservation Department staff buried a dead seal found by the Whanganui River on Friday. It was not visibly injured or in poor condition.

Mountain airlift A hiker with a leg injury was airlifted from Mt Ruapehu to Taupō Hospital on Friday. The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was called to the Rangipo Hut, approximately 1550 metres up the side of the mountain, to rescue the hiker.
Kapiti-Auck launch The success of Air Chathams service between Whanganui and Auckland has seen the airline announce yesterday that it would be launching a new regional service of 36 flights a week between Kāpiti and Auckland from August 20. Air Chathams has stepped in at Kapiti following Air New Zealand's withdrawal, just as it did in Whanganui two years ago.
