The sport of darts is growing around the world.
Many of New Zealand's finest players will be in Wanganui from Wednesday, March 2 to Saturday, March 5 to compete in the Clubs New Zealand North Island Darts Tournament to be held at the Castlecliff Club and Wanganui Darts League hall in
Heads Rd.
Entries have been received from 558 men and women from clubs all over the North Island. Sixty dart boards are required just to run this tournament.
Rob Szabo, Craig Caldwell, Peter Hunt, Cody Harris, Mark McGrath and Mick Lacey all competed in the 2015 New Zealand Darts Super League broadcast on Sky TV.
Porirua Club's Rob Szabo might have lost 3-1 to Phil "The Power" Taylor, at the 2014 Darts World Championships in London, but his performance was a double-bull for the game in this country. Rob Szabo took the first set off Phil Taylor, then won the first leg of the next to stun the Alexandra Palace crowd and 16-time world champion Phil Taylor. Craig Caldwell, also from Porirua Club, was in the last 32 competing in the BDO World Darts Championships in England.
It will be a great week of darts.
