Brody Dalle's album might make her the big star she deserves to be.

Brody Dalle's album might make her the big star she deserves to be.

Brody Dalle should be a bigger star than she is -- and this could be the album to make that happen. With a punk rock swagger and raspy, yet strong, vocals, the former Distillers singer is a force to be reckoned with.

The Australian-born Californian shares with her husband, Josh Homme, a style of appealing hard rock that transcends the ick factor of over-refined grunge.

Don't Mess With Me starts off very QOTSA before launching into a powerful chorus in which Dalle's throaty cry is best used. Dalle's falsetto on I Don't Need Your Love is haunting, while the album closes with the two-part Meet the Foetus/Oh the Joy featuring Shirley Manson and Warpaint's Emily Kokal on backing vocals, and Parties for Prostitutes, which is Lana Del Rey over a military beat. Good fun and a great listen.
