It's women's night at the Whanganui Musicians' Club on Friday.
The theme for this month is "femme musicale" and two mainly-female bands have been booked to play, co-president John Keating said.
The first is Henpicked , three women and a man from the Kapiti Coast. They play a mix oflight country tunes, with smidgins of folk/pop and reggae influence.
They've played at festivals in Parihaka, Levin and Nelson, have a debut album called Astroturf and can perform 40 original songs.
The second guest act is a young Wellington band called The Dreamers. Three of the five members are women and all are former students of the New Zealand School of Music. There's Conor McCabe on vocals, Jean Pompey on drums, Jacqui Nyman on guitar and Wanganui's Te Atawhai Ponga on bass.
