A flash bike and a certificate have been presented to long-time National Park resident Murray Wilson, recognising his contribution to the village.
Mr Wilson started an accommodation business in the village about 21 years ago but since then has been a staunch supporter of the National Park Village Business Association
and was a driving force behind many community initiatives including the new cycle route. The presentations were made when Kiwi Mountain Bikes opened its new base in the village.
Mr Wilson said he was "flabbergasted" to receive a new mountain bike.
Visit Ruapehu Trust chairwoman Nikki Riley also presented him with an Outstanding Contribution to Tourism certificate as nominated by members of the public and supported by Mr Wilson's fellow trust board members.
Mike Smith, Visit Ruapehu manager, said Mr Wilson's leadership had seen the village's business association become the only independent tourism group in the Ruapehu district with membership from every business within its community.
