Telecom hub expands into new premises

Wanganui's Telecom business hub has grown so much that it needs more room.

Along with the Telecom retail store, it has expanded into the space formerly used by Mag Zone in the same Victoria Ave building.

Three years ago Telecom had one part-time and three full-time staff members in Victoria Ave. Now there are 12.

Last week contractors were busy making $50,000 worth of changes to their shop front, and adding a meeting room for business hub customers at the back, owner Shane Nottage said.

The cost is to be paid by Telecom as part of a franchise arrangement.

The refit has taken about two weeks, with the business closed for several days during that time.

Meanwhile, Mag Zone customers have been worried about where to get their specialist publications, Mr Nottage said, but they need have no fear.

Mag Zone was owned by Pip Nottage and her sister. When the Telecom store expanded they sold the customer base, stock and plant to Sharyn Rehm, the owner of nearby Mi-Store.

Her shop became Mi-Store Mi-Magz at Easter.

She plans to keep the same range of magazines and add more cards and gift lines.

She will also have a sale of other stock to make room for the new stock.
