When Graham Clarke got involved in the courier industry more than 20 years ago, the business relied on pen and paper.
Now, he says his company, Fastway Couriers Wanganui, has embraced the new technologies which are saving his business time and money.
Recently Fastway held a nationwide competition offering $250worth of free freight to customers and it was won by Wanganui firm Furniture Road.
Mr Clarke said the competition highlighted the move to more email-based dealings and it was paying dividends.
"Instead of posting out statements to our customers each month we're simply emailing them. It's done quickly and the customers love it," Mr Clarke said. "Sure, there is a cost to us for doing that but it's certainly a lot cheaper than posting them."
He said the business had more than 700 clients and that was growing every month. The bulk of them were in the city but many also lived in towns throughout the wider region.
