Sparkie's bright idea to light up national awards

Wanganui electrician Paul Cook is obviously one bright sparkie.
On the payroll at MacEll Maintenance, he is now ranked among the country's top apprentices.
His reward is a place among the finalists in the industrial section of the Electrical Contractors' Association of NZ awards in Wellington later this month.
Mr Cook, 21, made the finals after finishing first in the regional finals and in the top six overall after all regional results were tallied.
His control system for a concrete mixer earned him a 90 per cent-plus grading.
Mr Cook, whose father is also an electrician, was Dux at Cullinane College in 2008.
He said he chose a trade ahead of university studies "because it seemed something useful to do".
