Wanganui financial services company Kelly and Associates is offering a $5000 scholarship to someone in the region - for the first time this year.

Kelly and Associates has offices in Wanganui and Marton and is part of the adviser network for insurance and investment company AMP New Zealand.

AMP has offered a range of scholarships nationwide since 1998, giving out more than $1.5 million to more than 130 New Zealanders during that time.

Recipients have ranged from a shoe designer to an athlete and this year it has $200,000 up for grabs.

People applying for those compete with others across the country.

This year for the first time a member of the AMP network has offered a scholarship just for the Wanganui/ Rangitikei/ Waimarino region.

The company was proud to offer it and wanted to give something back to the people it served, office manager Julie Kelly said.

The $5000 scholarship would be given to anyone in the region who had a goal and the determination to achieve it - a goal they aspired to that would better themselves or contribute to the community, region, country or the world.
