He's been a dairy farmer in his native Switzerland, as well as his adopted New Zealand.
Now Alois Muller is hitting the road ... with our mail.
Mr Muller and his wife, Vicky, took over Wanganui's rural mail delivery from Ann and Noel Petherick from the start of the month. The Pethericks
have retired and are planning a road trip through Australia from April.
For six years, the couple made sure the mail got to the River Rd letterboxes. They said they'd miss the residents they had befriended over the years, but felt it was time to move on.
The Mullers already run the Avenue Tobacconist.
Alois Muller has lived in New Zealand for the past 12 years after becoming smitten with the country on a holiday.
"He loved the landscape," his wife said. "He went back home but decided he wanted to make New Zealand his home."
He ran a dairy farm in Southland and worked in the vineyards in Marlborough before taking a courier's job with Fastway in Wanganui where he met his wife. Now Mr Muller is mixing business with pleasure: enjoying the scenery while earning a living.
