New spotlight on our business sector

An exciting development in the Wanganui business scene launches next week.

Called Business Extra, the special tabloid-sized publication replaces the Chronicle's weekly local business page.

Business Extra shines the spotlight on the local business community, with an emphasis on local content and columns as well as consumer-focused articles, the sharemarket, and news from around New Zealand and the world.

In Tuesday's first edition, business reporter Laurel Stowell takes a look at the inner workings of Mainstreet Wanganui, discovering the people behind the organisation, its objectives and how it achieves them. In addition, we revisit the successful business awards with an overview plus some fantastic images, and catch up with some changes in and around the city's car dealerships.

Business Extra comes free with Tuesday's Chronicle.

To mark the launch period, a free paper will be delivered to businesses each Tuesday in Wanganui.

Chronicle editor Ross Pringle describes the new business publication as a collaborative effort among departments to best meet the needs of the market.

"We think it will appeal to readers with an interest in the local business sector, as well as the business people themselves. What better way to appraise Wanganui of new developments and promote yourself than in a targeted publication such as Business Extra?"

He was hopeful the local community would support the initiative.

"It is always a gamble to launch a new venture, and this will succeed only with the support of the local business community. However, we think we have got the mix right and feel it is the right time to look forward with a positive focus."

He encouraged businesses to advise the newsroom of key developments.
