Tawhiri Pohio isn't one to let a chance go by and by setting up Technoman Computers in Whanganui East he's expanding his business horizons.

Mr Pohio opened Technoman Computers at 65 Moana St last week in the Whanganui East shopping centre.

While he is the business owner, the work will be handled by IT technician Phil Feldon with Mr Feldon's wife Donna managing the shop.

If the workload demands it then subcontractors would be called on.

Mr Pohio also owns and operates Renoman in the city, a building renovation business.

The new store will handle most computer and IT issues with the team able to repair iPhones, tablets and computers and refurbish computers.

"If we can't fix them here we can outsource them to others who can fix them.

" I believe we're the only stand-alone business operating from premises like this in Whanganui," he said.

They are also looking at getting in ex-lease computers which will be refurbished and then sold through the shop. Technoman is the only internet cafe in Whanganui East where people can come in with their own devices and use the shop's internet connection. "From next week we're going to be selling smart alarms.

"They're wireless alarms which can be run from smartphones. So really what we're doing is more than just computer-based. It's about selling technology and offering people the chance to link in with that," Mr Pohio said.

And customers will be seeing the variety of stock carried in the shop grow as well.

"We'll also do graphic design work, which is something Phil is qualified in, and we're also able to handle web design and management."
