NEW VENTURE: Jenny Monk is the new owner of Posh Comfort on Victoria Ave. PHOTO/STUART MUNRO

NEW VENTURE: Jenny Monk is the new owner of Posh Comfort on Victoria Ave. PHOTO/STUART MUNRO

When Jane Hayman opened Posh Comfort in Whanganui two years ago she said she was in the business of selling shoes "that will take you from pavement to party".

Now Ms Hayman is stepping down from the business and new owner Jenny Monk is set to continue in the same theme.

Ms Monk officially takes over the store on August 1 and said she was looking forward to the challenge.

She has a background in health services as a nurse and midwife but for the last seven years has been working in retail in the central city.

"Jane offered me a job here and I just fell in love with the store, the customers and, of course, the shoes.

"I've been looking out for a business opportunity and this is the best fit for me. It's all about the shoes and the customers. It's fun and enjoyable."

Posh Comfort specialises in higher end footwear but Ms Monk said the product and prices were a good fit for Whanganui.

"Jane's been a great mentor and she's shown me what works for our customers. Jane has already done a lot of work on this area ensuring our customers do have the variety of styles they're looking for.

"I've also been incredibly lucky to retain Jill (Titchbury). Her energy and knowledge will continue to give our customers that special feeling."

Ms Monk said another key reason for taking over Posh Comfort was because she didn't want to see another shop close down in Whanganui: "Whanganui's fantastic to live in, I totally believe in this place and we are enjoying raising our family here."

She said Whanganui had a vast scope of expertise which made the progression into her own business fun and exciting.

"In talking to people about taking over Posh Comfort everyone has been hugely supportive of what I'm doing. I've been blown away by the amount of positive feedback," she said.

Ms Monk said changes will probably happen within the store but they won't happen immediately.

"I'll move in, get settled then maybe after a few months make some changes. The shop is perfect the way it is really. It's appealing and has lovely ambience to it.

"What I want to do is focus on shoes and our customers. That's what we're here for. I'm really excited about the change and the challenge and putting my energies into something that's my own."

Ms Hayman said she wanted to thank all her customers who had supported her in the business over the years.

"I know Jenny's going to be fantastic. She's got a fantastic eye and I know she's going to do well," she said.
