Marton building firm Richards Construction Ltd has been named as national gold reserve finalist in the Registered Master Builders 2016 House of the Year.
The Rangitikei firm is one of 100 finalists which will now be judged again by a national judging panel and the overall winners named at agala diner in Auckland on November 26.
The company has been selected to join elite company in the Future-Proof Building new home worth $500,000-$650,000.
The gold reserve finalists represent the top entrants from this year's regional competitions, which were held in July and August. Finalists also have the opportunity to win one of the 12 national category awards, as well as separate awards for four lifestyle categories.
David Kelly, chief executive of the Registered Master Builders Association, said the 100 homes were well-deserving of being national finalists, with many displaying unique features and innovative designs.
"We have some remarkable homes in his year's final. House of the Year recognises quality craftsmanship from all over New Zealand and from across the sector, from cost effective builds through to luxury homes. As the building boom continues the competition recognises what is possible," Mr Kelly said.
He said one home was built as a traditional log cabin using locally sourced logs and another was a renovation that barely survived the Canterbury earthquakes.
