Wanganui's Rod Jones is putting 37 years' roofing experience to use by becoming a roofing consultant and project manager.

He made the change from contractor to consultant in November.

He said 44-year-old Ashman's Roofing was still going, but it was now employing contractors to work on the ground in Wanganui and also at other jobs nationally. Mr Jones started with three years' experience as a carpenter and followed that with 37 years as a roofer. He's qualified roofer and a licensed building practitioner.

He said he made the change to employing qualified roofers to work in their own regions because it saved him bother. He can still ensure a quality job by making inspections - but doesn't have to find a continuous stream of work for waged employees or worry about weather.
