Dick Smith store to stay

The owners of the Dick Smith electronics stores are keeping Wanganui's open at this stage, a spokeswoman said.

The owners are Australian retailers Woolworths, which sells groceries, liquor, petrol and general goods. Woolworths decided to sell Dick Smith after concluding smaller electronics stores were not one of its main strengths.

In January it announced that it was preparing the Dick Smith business for sale. The restructure involved selling some Dick Smith stores in Australia and New Zealand.

The spokeswoman said some Auckland stores closed during the restructure and Woolworths was in the process of closing the Palmerston North store.
