The interior fit-out of a Brisbane store has earned recognition for Wanganui company Prospace Designz and especially one of its senior interior design team members.
Richard Stanton has been working in interior design for a few years but a little more than a year with the Wanganui company. But his skills
set him apart during judging at this year's NZ Retail Interior Association awards.
Mr Stanton's work for Element Collective's store in Brisbane won him the RED overall international award for retail design.
The judges said his design showed a balanced and thought-out store layout with some clever but simple touches "to create a fresh experience in the street, surf and skate category".
Mr Stanton said the brief was challenging because the budget was fairly tight.
"But the company wanted something quite different and creative so we had to come up with some clever and cheap ways of making it individual," he said.
"The Element brand is very youth-orientated so they tend to enjoy more innovative or newer type fit-outs."
This design was for the Brisbane store but Prospace has also done the interior design work for a branch in Dubai, underlying the reach of the Wanganui company. They also do all the Billabong stores throughout Australia, which, like Element Collective, is part of the global GSM Group of companies.
Mr Stanton said while the design was drafted in Wanganui, the shop fittings were done by a Brisbane company.
This is the second RED award he has won. A few years ago he was recognised for his redesign of the TAB in Wellington. "It's good to be recognised and it's good for the company profile as well," he said.
Before coming to Wanganui, Mr Stanton had done retail design work in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the Middle East.
