"In the larger centres it's possible to associate within our own sectors, be they architects, builders, or engineers, but in provincial areas it is vital to work together.
"By gaining a better understanding of each other's needs and collaborating closer, a lot of value can be realised as we become both more efficient and productive."
Mr Sinclair said the branch could also benefit by sharing in ongoing professional development events, enabling more educational events that directly benefit everyone in the region.
"The first action in this direction is to meet with the respective chairs of the industry groups and institutes in the region, to establish a network of contacts and discuss potential events," he said.
"From an internal perspective, the first task of our new committee is to visit as many of the architectural practices in the region, to gain more insight into their working environments and concerns of our members. With our members so geographically spread this is no small undertaking but we intend to have this under way next month."
Gerald Cogan, another Wanganui architect, of BSM Architects, is the branch representative on the NZIA national council for a second term. Mr Cogan is also on the Wanganui earthquake-prone building taskforce.
