Individuals, organisations and businesses are invited to register events for the inaugural Whanganui Heritage Month.

The event, which runs from August 3 to September 13, will celebrate Whanganui's Māori and European built heritage, including the 100 year anniversaries of the Sarjeant Gallery and Durie Hill Elevator.

"The vision is to have a series of eclectic and exciting events to celebrate and highlight any aspect of Whanganui's heritage and history," event co-ordinator Kelly Scarrow said.

Scarrow wants to hear from groups and individuals who are keen to host events during Heritage Month. The events could be tours, information seminars, exhibitions, cultural events or other activities.

"We welcome any partnerships and contributing events with the potential to further enhance this event in our community," Scarrow said.

There is a small charge to include an event in the Heritage Month programme which will be finalised by June 21.

Anyone who would like to register an event can contact Kelly Scarrow by email at or phone 027 304 2126.
