It was back-to-back titles for one Huntley School runner while another went one placing better when the 2018 Whanganui Inter-Intermediate Cross Country championships were held at Wanganui Collegiate on Thursday afternoon.

Kate Speedy once again lived up to her surname by winning the Year 8 girls race over 2.7km, to followup her Year 7 win last year in the 1.8km run.

Huntley School runners would win three of the four individual titles.

Schoolmate Lillah Cornelius was second, just ahead of Whanganui Intermediate's Katie Ramage, who repeated her third placing from the 2017 Year 7 race.

Last year, Huntley's Johnathon Jamieson was runnerup in the Year 7 race but in 2018 he would not be headed for the Year 8 title – winning by a comfortable margin from George Davey of St George's and Heike Reitrma of Fordell, who had a close finish for the minor honours.

The 2018 Year 7's races were won by Huntley's Isabelle Melville and St George's Oliver Jones respectively.

Among the 3-to-count and 6-to-count team titles, Whanganui Intermediate and Huntley School both picked up three victories, while St George's got two.

There were 200 students represented across 17 schools this year, up on last year with 160 students from 16 schools.
