State Highway 4 north of Whanganui remains closed due to slip risk

A section of State Highway 4 between Whanganui and Raetihi, where there is a high-risk slip near Fields Track, remains closed.

New Zealand Transport Agency closed the section of the Parapara about 5pm on Monday while detailed inspections of the slip site were carried out.

Detours were in place around state highways 3, 1 and 49.

An update was expected by 2pm today.

Meanhwile, a planned 36-hour closure of State Highway 1 Desert Road, due to repair work on the Waihohonu Bridge, has been postponed because of expected bad weather.

The closure was scheduled to start on Wednesday but wasexpected to take place from 7am Thursday, March 8, through to 7pm Friday, March 9.

The alternative route during the Desert Rd closure would be State Highways 46, 47, 4 and 49.
