The Palmerston North rescue helicopter was dispatched to a rural property near Matahiwi on Friday.

The Palmerston North rescue helicopter was dispatched to a rural property near Matahiwi on Friday.

A personal locator beacon helped the Palmerston North rescue helicopter find an injured woman on a rural property northeast of Matahiwi on Friday, November 10.

The 42-year-old woman fractured her ankle after slipping and falling down a bank on farmland. She was assisted by another farm worker and a personal locator beacon was activated.

The Palmerston North rescue helicopter went to the property about 5.30pm on Friday and the personal locator beacon assisted in quickly identifying the woman's location. Once the helicopter was in the area, its onboard location finder was able to pinpoint exactly where the woman was.

She was treated by the onboard paramedic at the scene before being airlifted to Whanganui Hospital for treatment.
