Vandals caused up to $800 damage at the weekend when they went joyriding at Virginia Lake.
Whanganui District Council parks team leader Wendy Bainbridge said there were no leads on the vehicle involved.
"The vehicle appears to have entered the Virginia Lake grounds from Great North Rd, driven over the shell rock wall and proceeded to drive along the pathway past the toilets and around to the punchbowl."
Ms Bainbridge said repairs to a shell rock wall and light fitting were likely to cost between $500 and $800.
"If members of the public see vandalism occurring in our parks or at other facilities, we would like them to report it to the police and include a vehicle registration number if possible," she said.
"We are grateful to the residents who have, in the past, often led the police to the offenders.
"In cases where the police have caught offenders, we have been able to recover costs to fix the damage."
