Westmere School went book crazy last week, with a range of fun activities to please all ages.
It was the first time Westmere School has held a book week. Co-organiser Darcy Wilson said it was organised by a small committee of teachers.
Activities included making bookmarks, a dress-up day, book
fair, book readings and competitions.
Staff and local communities took turns reading in classrooms. Whanganui Mayor Hamish McDouall read to one classroom, as did Whanganui electorate National Party candidate Harete Hipango, Lesley Stead from Paige's Book Gallery, as well as local librarians, doctors and police officers.
Several local authors came in to talk to the students and give readings.
