The Parapara SH4 road from Whanganui to Raetihi is currently closed due to slips.

New Zealand Transport Agency spokesperson, Liz Banas, said that the road closed at 3.53am this morning and will remain closed until further notice.

"I have just been told that there are a number of slips to deal with so until further notice the road will remained close. There will be another update in the morning."

Road users are advised to take an alternative route.
