Classes will begin at Cullinane College on Wednesday as planned, despite issues with a demolition project happening at the school.
On January 23 on the school's Facebook page, school principal Kevin Shore said that the demolition of the school's performing arts complex had caused some problems which could "impact on the opening of the college in 2017".
These problems included the internet being disrupted, and no water or sewerage. These have since been re-connected.
But the most serious issue was the discovery of asbestos under the floor coverings.
It is white asbestos (rather than the more dangerous blue asbestos) and is not airborne, so [it] has not been a risk to students and staff," Mr Shore wrote.
"The whole building site has been sprayed with a compound to seal the asbestos until the [building] report is completed and a strategy determined to remove the asbestos."
A further post from Mr Shore on January 26 confirmed that the building report had confirmed white asbestos only in the floor coverings.
"This is on the backing of the vinyl floor and is, therefore, relatively easy to remove safely and can be done while the school is operating."
A spokesperson for the school confirmed that it was opening as originally planned on February 1.
