Fire crews from Waverley, Patea and Whanganui saved most of a house at Waiinu Beach from burning down on Thursday night.
Waverley Chief Fire Officer Alan Hickford said there was one person living in the house, but he was out when the crew arrived.
Nobody was hurt, and 90 per
cent of the house was saved.
The fire was in the back end of the house in Pingao Pl just before 10pm.
Mr Hickford's crew didn't get away until after midnight, and he said it rained just about the whole time they were there.
