A digger was lifted up to a Durie Hill property this week prior to work starting to shore up the hillside between the house and Portal St below.
The hillside below the Rees St home was damaged in last June's weather event and local contractor ID Loader Ltd will beworking on the site for the next few weeks.
Justin Loader said they would be putting up a retaining wall and that meant getting a smaller digger onto the property first. The only way that could happen was by using Emmetts Crane Service to lift the machine into place.
"We'll have barriers in place on Portal St during the work but the street will be open to two-way traffic all the time," Mr Loader said.
"The only time we'll have to restrict traffic again is when the crane comes back to lift the digger off the section," he said.
