STANDING: David Cotton is standing for re-election to Horizons Regional Council.

Horizons Regional councillor David Cotton has confirmed he will stand for election again in the local government elections.

Mr Cotton, one of two councillors representing Whanganui, is currently in his first term.

Mr Cotton said election day would be the "score card" for his performance as councillor.

"I have had my say on issues over the last three years on behalf of our community. I have been transparent on how and why I voted on issues, and trust I have represented our community well," he said.

Mr Cotton said issues facing Whanganui ratepayers included water quality, and weed and pest control.

"But the number one issue for me is rates restraint - knowing the difference between best practice and good practice, and how to deliver quality services at a price our community can afford."

This year's local government elections will be held in October.
