Taste buds will get a work out this weekend as the Whanganui Food Show dishes up opportunities to taste exciting dishes.
Food fanciers can find everything from a fun competition for kids to a chef masterclass at the UCOL Whanganui campus on Rutland St this Saturday and Sunday.
Organised by Mainstreet Whanganui in partnership with UCOL, the show is all about health, innovation, New Zealand and education says Mainstreet manager Amanda Gibbons.
Chef Shaun Clauston will be taking time out from the popular Wellington restaurant Logan Brown to teach two master classes in his home town on Saturday and Sunday.
There are coffee classes throughout the day on Saturday where budding baristas can learn the finer points of coffee extraction.
For aspiring butchers, there is a chance to learn how to bone a shoulder of pork or, obtain different cuts from a chicken or select, cut and trim a good steak.
On Sunday there will be a Kiwi Kids Can Cook competition for 5-10 year olds with heats throughout the day starting from 9am.
There is also a Build a Better Brekkie contest for 4-15 year olds with sessions from 9.20 until 12.40pm on Sunday.
