A Whanganui entrant was first in the annual vintage car rally on Sunday but a Palmerston North competitor was just as good.
Ted and Jenny Matthews' 1965 Mustang placed first equal with visitor Peter Robinson's Mercury in the rally from Kowhai Park to Waverley.
Vintage car club president Peter Hardy said it was great to welcome the 27 out-of-town competitors taking part this year and 42 Whanganui competitors joining in.
The next big event for vintage car enthusiasts in Whanganui will be the Burma Rally during vintage weekend in January. The rally was named by a group of VCC members who called it after a favourite route up Burma Hill.
Mr Hardy said competitors are welcome to start registering their interest for the rally or make inquiries about the Whanganui branch of VCC which meets on the first Wednesday monthly at 7.30pm. The club can be contacted at wanganui@vcc.org.nz or call Peter and Doreen Hardy on 06343 5045.
