A treat awaits book lovers, with the opening of the St John book sale tonight.
Coordinator Jenny Burkett said the books would number in the thousands. There are also CDs, records and puzzles.
They range in price from 50 cents for three books, to $10.
The book sale is a fundraiser for St John, with all the money going back into the local community.
"The money goes towards our community programmes, particularly the health shuttle and youth programmes. Sometimes it could be used for a special project like building maintenance. We get no funding for this sort of thing."
Mrs Burkett said about 12 volunteers helped sort the books, set up for the sale and man the tills.
This is the second St John book sale for the year, with others to be held in May, July and October. The sale opens at 25 Tawa St tonight 6-9pm, tomorrow 10am-6pm and Saturday 10am-6pm. Cash only.
