Child in car: Still no plea

A Whanganui mother alleged to have left her 1-year-old child locked in a car in a public place overnight reappeared in court yesterday.

The woman, who earlier denied charges of leaving a child under 14 without reasonable supervision, and supplying meth, appeared before Judge David Cameron in the Whanganui District Court.

It is alleged the woman was found intoxicated beside a locked car on Boxing Day. Police took her away to prevent her driving, but it is claimed she did not tell them the baby was inside. It is understood the child was not harmed.

She has yet to plead to the charge of leaving the baby in the car.

Judge Cameron remanded the woman to a case review date in May.
