Police are calling for witnesses to an incident in Castlecliff that left two men with stab wounds.

Detective Aaron Bunker of Whanganui Police said the men were assaulted at Lundon Park around 3am on Sunday.

"After a party at a local address, some partygoers have gone to Lundon Park. While at the park a fight has broken out, resulting in two people being stabbed."

Mr Bunker said both men required medical attention but were later discharged from Whanganui Hospital.

He said police wanted to hear from people at the party and any members of the public who witnessed the incident.

Several residents living in the area said they were aware of a gathering in the park on Saturday night.

"There were lots of people yelling, lots of bad language. It kept us awake for a while, but it didn't seem too bad," one woman said. We do sometimes get a bit of noise on Saturday night, but fortunately not very often."

Another woman said there was "a lot of shouting" which woke her up.
