It pains her to think of it, but Jo Ockey stands to lose her signed edition of Wanganui man Christodoulos Moisa's new book of poetry.
The co-ordinator of the Whanganui Artists' Open Studios event is setting a good example by donating two favourite books to The World's Smallest Library in the expectation that she will be able to take home someone else's favourite reads in exchange.
The World's Smallest Library will be set up next month in the phone box outside the Big Orange cafe in Wanganui's Victoria Ave.
Temporary shelves are to be installed by Prospace Designz.
The "library" will be open daily during the open studios event, which spans two weekends and runs from March 19 to 27.
Anyone is welcome to donate two favourite books.
They can be left at Wanganui's Davis Library from Monday onward or be brought to library during the event.
The givers will then be entitled to take their pick from shelves.
"It's sharing your experiences with someone else in the community, because that's what books are all about."
The library will not be staffed, but the Big Orange will bring books and shelves indoors each night.
On the seat next to it, The World's Smallest Publishing House will be at work from time to time.
Here's a sample poem from the publisher:
A small list of humble wishes between a man and a woman
1. that we share the same shallow breaths of sleep, warm in the dark.
2. if we wake up we are not afraid or annoyed by the snoring of the dog.
3. lying between friend and love, we hear the sound of gentle rain on the tin roof
People are reminded to book for the opening event on March 19, a meal at Element Cafe with jazz and a talk from lawyer, entertainer and storyteller Greg King. Bookings at Wanganui's i-SITE or Element Cafe. For more open studios information, see www.openstudios.co.nz.
