Tom Raynel is a Multimedia Business Reporter for the New Zealand Herald. He joined the Herald in 2024.

Tom began working at NZME in July 2024, offering freelance work at BusinessDesk where he covered financial results, markets and court proceedings. This experience helped Tom join the NZ Herald’s Business team in August 2024, focused on covering retail and small business as a multimedia journalist. He has reported extensively on financial results, company liquidations, and the retail industry's key figures across the country. He added the tourism round to his coverage in early 2025. Tom is passionate about learning the stories of those behind New Zealand’s businesses, big or small.
