In our pursuit of très jolie makeup, the Viva beauty team discovered the limited-edition collaboration between two Parisian fashion icons - L'Oréal Paris and the inimitable Karl Lagerfeld – in an exclusive makeup collection which celebrates the former Chanel creative director's Parisian chic aesthetic.

Working at the helm of one of the most prestigious design houses for more than three decades, the L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld collaboration was initiated by the late designer in the final stages of his life. His vision of creating a classic and effortless makeup collection is realised in every eye-catching product. L'Oréal Paris was keen to celebrate his legacy by continuing his vision for the collection.

And what better way to experience the magic of makeup by hosting our very own Karl Lagerfeld-inspired beauty shoot? We pulled together our dream team to bring Karl’s vision to life, using all six products in the newly minted range. From bare faced beauty to rock chic sophisticated, L'Oréal Paris New Zealand makeup director Lisa Matson created four inspiring, versatile looks perfect for day to night wear.

TO START:
"Lightly spritz the skin with water, then apply your favourite hydrating moisturiser. Allow that to melt into the skin before applying foundation. For this shoot, I used L'Oréal's Infallible Matte 24H Foundation," Lisa says.

LOOK 1: BARE FACED BEAUTY
Lisa says: "To create this daytime look, I used a combination of the lighter, luminous shades along the top right hand side of the L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Eye Kontour Palette to create a warm-toned eye. A dusting of the L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Highlight Kompact helped bring luminosity to the skin. To finish, I selected a natural, nude lipstick shade L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Color Riche Lipstick in the shade 'Kontemporary'. I applied a small amount like a tint".

"I transitioned this look by punching up the eye look using the warm shades through the centre of the L'Oréall Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Eye Kontour Palette. For a statement lip, I swiped on the L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Color Riche Lipstick in the shade 'Ironik'," says Lisa.

Lisa says: "I mixed a few of the deeper metallic shades – like the black and silver on the left hand side of the L'Oreal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Eye Kontour Palette. I used a touch of the L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Graphik Liner along the inner water rim. For lips, I used the L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Color Riche Lipstick in the shade 'Kontrasted'. It's a wine shade. This is still a smoky eye look but with a stronger lip."

"For this look, I went in with a deep metallic blue shade from the L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Eye Kontour Palette to create a very heavy smoky eye. I softened the lip look up a bit by applying a nude L'Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld Color Riche Lipstick in the shade 'Kultured'," says Lisa.
