Tournament under way at Castlecliff Bowling Club

Celebrating 100 years this year will be a happy occasion for Castlecliff Bowling Club, but it will be tinged with sadness.

For, having made the century mark, the club is to close.

It will amalgamate with Gonville Bowling Club, move to their base, and has put its site in Manuka Street up for sale.

Dwindling membership and financial pressures have prompted the demise of the club which will hold a centendary celebration on November 24.

The club's site is being sold by Bayleys and is seen as a property ripe for development.

Bayleys have put the 4773 square metre site up fro sale by private treaty with a deadline of November 8, and say the land is ideal for new homes or a retirement complex.

It could also suit a community groups looking for a new base.

As well as the greens, there are club rooms, a kitchen/bar area, bathrooms and garaging.
