The Mangonui Pony Club reported a great turnout of both younger riders and those of the more mature variety when it held its closing gymkhana on Sunday, April 7.
The riders took part in dressage, jumping and games events in the morning, and showjumping in the afternoon before the end-of-season
prizegiving took place.
Overall trophy winners for the season were Tamzyn Howell: junior points and grooming trophy; Rory Jones: 75cm showjumping title; Kimberly Blucher: intermediate points, dressage trophy and 60cm showjumping title; Ellie McMahon, 90cm showjumping and sportsperson trophies; Olivia Matthews: 1m showjumping, senior points and showjumping trophies; and, Hayley Braithwaite: eventing trophy.
Special mention also went to Hayley Braithwaite who recently qualified for the Northland team which will travel to Hawke's Bay to compete in the national pony club team championships at Flaxmere this weekend (one of three Far North riders in the six-strong team with the other two representing BOIPC).
A report from the club noted that that although the summer season is nearly officially over, the MPC will still hold rallies as weather permits where activities include horsemanship, dressage, games, showjumping and most of all, having fun with horses. Club contact is Mac MacPherson 408-2766.
