Taipa Area School was gearing up to host the Matariki Muriwhenua Ki-o-rahi Challenge from June 28-29.
With two divisions, seniors for Years 9-13 (being played on Thursday, June 28), and juniors for Years 3-8 (on the Friday), organisers noted each team will play a minimum of one game.
And inkeeping with the traditions of ki-o-rahi, an ancient Maori ball game which promotes participation and peaceful interactions, school representatives have been invited to attend a tatu and hakari at Taipa AS Taitokora Whare on Wednesday, June 20, at 5pm.
Tatu is the process that occurs before games where all participating representatives have the opportunity to discuss, decide and agree on the rules of play.
Organisers advised that spaces were limited in each division, with team registrations due on Monday, June 11. Those who sign up before 4pm go into the draw to win a ki-o-rahi travel kit.
