The Northland Natural Horsemanship Games return to the Barge Showgrounds in Whangarei on Sunday, April 7.
Organiser Pat Hunter said the games have become an annual event on Northland's equestrian calendar in offering a "fun and exciting place for horse lovers to gather" and featuring 16 different activities for equestriansto contest at their chosen skill level.
All participants have a chance to win ribbons and prizes if they complete their respective games in time and with their relationship with their horse intact.
At the end of the 'on ground' games held late morning, and horseback games held mid-afternoon, Tori Murray-Elley and her horse Redinka will deliver two "inspirational displays" showing both casual and formal riding styles with a strong emphasis on achieving amazing results while keeping a good relationship with the ridden horse.
"Natural horsemanship is relating to your horse by using the horse's own language. The human uses almost exclusively body language and modifies their natural predator responses.
The horse then enters into more of a partnership with their human, which opens the possibility for more fun and extends what a horse and human can do," said Pat.
There will be food stalls, raffles and horse-focused stalls on the day. Organisers described it as an affordable fun day for all, costing only $25 for participants and free entry for spectators.
